13th Junzi Corporation Award Ceremony

The School of Business (SBUS) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) hosted the 13th Junzi Corporation Award Presentation Ceremony on 21 June 2024 to recognise outstanding companies that have demonstrated exceptional high standards in conducting operations in accordance with the five Junzi Virtues: “Ren (Benevolence)”, “Yi (Righteousness)”, “Li (Propriety)”, “Zhi (Wisdom)”, and “Xin (Trustworthiness)”. The “HSUHK Business Ethics Index” was announced, and a dialogue with business leaders was carried out on the same occasion.

This year, 16 companies received Junzi Corporation Awards in three categories, including the Junzi Corporation Award for Exemplary Business Practices, the Junzi Corporation Awards and the Junzi Corporation Awards (Small and Medium Enterprises).

Since 2011, HSUHK faculty members and students have been making consistent progress in compiling the HSUHK Business Ethics Index by undertaking thorough academic research that reflects the five Junzi Virtues to further reflect the Hong Kong business community’s overall ethical standards. At the ceremony, Dr Thomas Man, SBUS Associate Dean (Enterprise and Business Engagement) announced the HSUHK Business Ethics Index for 2024, which is at 60.3 (out of 100), and represents a decrease of 3.36% from 62.4 for 2023. The results reflected that Hong Kong citizens consider the performance of “Junzi” business behaviour of various companies is inferior to that in the previous year.

The average scores of Hong Kong enterprises with the five Junzi virtues ‘Ren (benevolence)’, ‘Yi (righteousness)’, ‘Li (propriety)’, ‘Zhi (wisdom)’, and ‘Xin (trustworthiness)’ were also announced:

REN
(benevolence)
58.5
YI
(righteousness)
54.0
LI
(propriety)
60.0
ZHI
(wisdom)
61.0
XIN
(trustworthiness)
64.7

At the event, a panel on the topic of “New Directions in New Circumstances” was conducted, with business leaders Mr Calvin Cheng, Chairman of the Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Association, and Mr Leslie Choy, Founder and Chairman of Ausupreme International Holdings Limited as speakers, and Dr Winnie Chan, Lecturer at Department of Marketing, as facilitator.
